Stiff Neck, Causes? - stiff neck hard to swallow

I had difficulty bending a stiff neck (on your left and right) for a week - and a slow deterioration. I had this before, and will eventually, but it is very annoying. I have no other symptoms, except a stiff neck. No idea what could be causing this? Could I have slept badly and takes away a few times?
